After emigrating to Queens from Italy in the early 60’s, Giuliano Balestra was contacted by luthier John D’Angelico as a potential craftsman. Unfortunately, D’Angelico died suddenly and before a connection was made. Giuliano was subsequently offered the job as foreman at Fred Gretsch Manufacturing in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1975, Giuliano opened his own business in downtown White Plains, NY as Giuliano’s Guitar Shop. His son Bobby apprenticed for him from an early age. While “Giuli” is no longer with us, the Father and son duo’s clients are a who’s who of well-known artists including Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter, BB King, Buddy Guy, Nile Rodgers, Leslie West, George’s Benson & Harrison, 80’s rockers Peter Frampton, Ace Frehley and Joe Walsh. The list goes on…
Perhaps most famous is the restoration of the one of a kind 1957 D’Angelico “Teardrop” New Yorker.
Giuliano’s Music is currently located in Stamford, CT 441 Summer Street where Bobby runs his workshop.
